WWE Extreme Rules to shake up sports entertainment


The 14th edition of Extreme Rules is set to take place this weekend and with multiple title matches and grudge fights, the WWE Universe is anticipating a night filled with pure carnage, utter destruction and NO disqualifications.

The annual showdown has come full circle and returns to the birthplace of extreme at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. From Liv Morgan defending her title on Smackdown, Bayley and Belair square off for the Raw Women’s Championship to rivals Matt Riddle and Seth “Freakin” Rollins entering the “Fight Pit” match. Where will you be?

Here are some standout match cards to keep your eyes peeled:

An Extreme Rules Match for the Smackdown Women’s Championship by Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey

The two female superstars have a long-standing rivalry, as current Smackdown Champion Liv Morgan has been overlooked by Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler – Morgan is looking to prove to the WWE Universe that she can get extreme.

The Baddest Woman on the Planet is determined to reclaim the SmackDown Women’s Title from Liv Morgan. The defending champion is set to put on a brave performance after confronting Rousey with a baseball bat on the September 30 episode of Smackdown. Judging by the fight between the two, this will be one for the books.

Rivals Matt Riddle vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins set to meet in Fight Pit Match at Extreme Rules

On Sunday, the stage will be set for one of the biggest matches of the evening. Matt Riddle will tangle with bitter rival Seth “Freakin” Rollins Inside the Fight Pit. The Fight Pit will officially debut on the main roster, which provides the perfect opportunity to settle a score on their volatile history. With the unique stipulation in place, it seemed only fitting that MMA legend Daniel Cormier would step in and attempt to keep order as a special guest referee.

Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross (with Scarlett) in a Strap Match

At WWE Extreme Rules, Drew McIntyre will literally entangle Karrion Kross in a tough Strap Match. Also known as the Texas Bullrope match, Dog Collar match, and Four Corners Strap match – despite its different names, the one thing that remains is that when the bell rings, there’s no escaping your opponent.

Strap matches have seen some of the biggest names in WWE history face off, including Triple H vs. The Rock in WWE Fully Loaded 1999; Savio Vega vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin in a Caribbean Strap Match and in 2004 where JBL faced Eddie Guerrero in a Texas Bullrope Match for the WWE Championship.

Bianca Belair vs. Bayley in a Ladder Match for the Raw Women’s Championship

This fight will be a battle of success with both women having won multiple titles and ready to continue their reputation for championship quality. Recently, Bayley scored a pin on Belair in a tag team matchup, but to prove they’re above the rest of the WWE Superstars, they face off in a brutal Ladder Match.

The stakes are high for this matchup, and fans will want to see who will reach new heights.

Edge vs. Finn Bálor in an “I quit” match

WWE legend Edge will take on Irish-born star Finn Balor, both of whom are looking to be eradicated. While Edge is on a mission to destroy the band he founded, The Judgment Day, Balor wants to end Edge’s career. With Edge returning to Raw on September 26, he’s set for some demand-backed revenge and that’s to fight Balor in an “I Quit” match. Who will say “I quit” first?

The Brawling Brutes vs. Imperium in a good old-fashioned Donnybrook six-man tag team match

The two dangerous factions have been feuding for a while and the timing of this match is impeccable. Just a day after Gunther’s rematch against Sheamus in the blue brand’s season premiere on October 7,

The Brawling Brutes will once again go to war against Der Ring General and his ruthless Imperium cohorts in a match tailored for their aggressive rivalry, a Six-Man Tag Team Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook Match.
