By Paul O’Malley

The best of traditional Irish music will be presented in Ballina this week from July 20-24 as the north Mayo town prepares to host Connacht Fleadh in 2023.

Fleadh Cheoil Chonnachta Ballina is set to take place July 2-9 next year and this week’s Ballina Trad Fest should whet the appetite for next year’s event.

On Wednesday July 20 there will be a concert at the Ballina Arts Center featuring the talent of the Green Grove Céile Band, the Bofield CCE Harps Ensemble, Atlantic Rhythm, Tommy Maloney, Victor Alexander and more. This event takes place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, another concert will take place at the Center for the Arts, this time featuring the talent of In-Tune, Angela Deane, Louise Langan, Kate and Paddy Heneghan, the Bofield CCE Uilleann Pipers and more, from 8-10 p.m.

On Saturday, the excitement continues with Céile Mór in the Grand National from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Set Dancers are invited to participate.

The Grand Seissiún Trail will also take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. while there will also be a bus contest with €500 in prizes.
