MILL CREEK — Garrett Gibson drew a goal-laden march late in the sixth inning as second seed Tygarts Valley stayed alive in the Class A, Region II, Section 1 tournament with a 3-2 winner on the fourth seeded Doddridge County on Thursday night.

Noah Armstrong started the sixth with a single and Kaden Moore walked. One out later, Ian Harris drew another pass and after a strikeout, Armstrong trotted home when Gibson walked.

Matthew Pratt tied with the bases loaded in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2 for Tygarts Valley.

The Doddridge County Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead on back-to-back home runs by Colt Sutton and Aiden Eddy in the fourth.

Riley Tackett responded for the hosts with a solo homer in the half frame.

Gibson rode all seven rounds to take the win. He allowed just three hits and stoked eight.

Dylan Knight allowed five hits through six innings taking the loss for Doddridge County, giving up five hits and striking out four.

Kendall Armstrong had two hits in the victory for Tygarts Valley, which hosts third seed South Harrison at 5 p.m. today in the losers’ group final.

The Hawks picked up a 6-5 win over Tygarts Valley on Tuesday in sectional action.

The winner goes Saturday to Notre-Dame, seeded. The Irish only need one victory to win the section.
