The losing streak against Notre Dame (3) and especially this season (4) finally ended for Stanford on Saturday, as they managed to beat the Irish in South Bend.
The win marks only the fifth time Stanford has beaten Notre Dame on the road, and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Cardinal. Stanford was on a four-game skid that seemed never to end, especially after the Week 6 loss to Oregon State saw Stanford lose its 59.5-minute lead in the final 30 seconds. The Cardinal held the Irish scoreless until the third quarter, and the defense unlike previous weeks, was able to make huge plays throughout the game to help solidify the victory.
As I wrote about this weekend, the win likely saved jobs, team morale, and could be a season-saving win. Although the match went down as the most action-packed Saturday in years, the national analyst took note of the magnitude of the victory.
ESPN’s beloved college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit even went so far as to name Stanford in his top 10 Week 7 prep teams with programs including Tennessee, Michigan, Utah and the TCU who are also on the list.

Stanford finally having some momentum to build could be the difference in this season’s turnaround, and facing a struggling team like Arizona State this week only gives them a better chance of continuing their success.
