Bridget Jones fans are sure to rejoice after Renée Zellweger said she wants to play the endearing, goof-prone character again.

The 52-year-old actress opened up about her fondness for the beloved British icon, known for her romantic entanglements and whom Renée has played three times, in a new interview.

The latest outing, 2016’s Bridget Jones’ Baby, saw the journalist having a baby with her on-and-off boyfriend, lawyer Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth.

When asked to return once again to play Bridget on The Jess Cagle Show on SiriusXM, Renee said: “I hope so. I hope so. I mean, it’s fun, you know, she’s so much fun.”

She continued, “I love being in his shoes. I mean, it makes me laugh, you know, every day on set, the choices we can make about how we can make his situation awkward. is so much fun.”

Reflecting on Bridget’s enduring popularity, the Oscar-winning performer said: “‘I find her so endearing… her kind of self-deprecating determination.

“I love it. And I think it’s really rare to be able to follow a character through different stages of their life.

“And in a way that we find it relatable, because it parallels our own life experiences at that time. I mean, Helen wrote another book, so there you go.”

The films, also starring Hugh Grant, Sally Phillips and Jim Broadbent, are adapted from comic novels by author Helen Fielding.

The Texas-born Chicago star Cold Mountain and Jerry Maguire won two stones to play Bridget, but has previously said she no longer wants to change form for a role.

“My body is screwed,” she admitted, after years of yo-yo dieting, and rapid wins and losses.

She continued: “I had a panic attack with all the specialists saying how bad it was for you, in the long run, gaining so much weight in a short time and they all say, ‘You have to stop or you ‘will die’.”

Since her starring role as Bridget, Renée has moved away from romantic comedies, most recently turning into serial killer Pam Hupp for a new NBC series.

The true crime drama The Thing About Pam will detail the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria, whose husband Russ was originally wrongfully convicted of the murder.

After being exonerated, Hupp was implicated in the murder and she was charged with first degree murder in July last year.

Betsy’s husband Russell was originally charged with the murder, but was released from prison and awarded over £1million in compensation. We think Pam framed him for the crime.

In the new series – which started airing last month – her face has been transformed by prosthetics to give her a bigger jawline and a bigger nose, and her hair has been styled into a shiny blonde bob.
