Sports Mole preview Friday’s Premier League of Ireland clash between St Patrick’s Athletic and Drogheda United, including predictions, team news and possible line-ups.

St. Patrick’s Athletic will try to find their way back to winning ways the first time around after suffering defeat in their last outing when they host Drogheda United.

The visitors currently sit just above the relegation zone, and even if they have a 10-point gap on the team below them, they won’t want to be drawn into a late panic.

Match preview

After two games unbeaten, St Patrick’s Athletic were beaten 2-1 in their last outing to current league leaders Shamrock Rovers.

A goal in the 93rd minute Eoin Doyle via the penalty spot was not enough to earn them points, as they had already conceded two goals in the space of 10 minutes in the second half.

It was St Patrick’s fourth home defeat of the season, a feat they will not be looking to repeat on Friday night when they host Drogheda United at Richmond Park.

The club are currently just five points away from a place in the top three, giving them plenty to play for the rest of the campaign.

Offensively they have been strong throughout this season, scoring 29 times in their 22 appearances so far, and it will be something they will look to push against one of the weakest defenses in the league. .

The visitors have conceded 32 goals so far, which is the Irish PM’s third-worst record, and a lot of those problems have come from at home where they let in 18.

Despite this, Drogheda was able to keep a clean sheet in his last outing by taking a point in a goalless draw against Sligo Rovers.

It was the third game in a row where Kevin DohertyThe team shared the points, and this trio of games followed two straight wins, with the team having a five-game unbeaten streak.

It helped them create a 10-point gap between them and the relegation zone, with Finn Harps looking to put pressure on them as they push towards the end of the season.

Away, Drogheda have only managed to pick up one win throughout the campaign with their form on the road being their weak point.

Team News

Jack Scott was placed in the last four for St Patrick’s Athletic on their last outing with Sam Curtis abandonment of the team to make way, which could be repeated again.

At the other end of the field, Doyle should lead the line as a lone striker for the hosts as he attempts to send them back to victory.

After keeping a clean sheet in their last outing, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Doherty looking to use the same back four on Friday in a bid to provide some consistency.

Meanwhile Dean Williams has been performing well offensively lately, and the forward is likely to keep his place in the squad.

St Patrick’s Athletic possible starting line-up:
Anang; Scott, Redmond, Grivosti, Breslin; O’Reilly, Forrester; Burns, King, Mr. Doyle; E. Doyle

Possible starting line-up of Drogheda United:
McCabe; Heeney, Quinn, Weir, Massey; Nugent, Brennan, Rooney; Clarke, Deegan; williams

We say: St Patrick’s Athletic 1-1 Drogheda United

Away from home, Drogheda United have struggled a lot throughout this campaign, but the recent form they have found could make them a threat in this particular fixture.

St Patrick’s are much higher up the league table and they will want to break into the top three, but seeing the two teams share the points is how things could end.
