Match prediction: No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs vs. No. 19 Kansas Jayhawks

0

Raise your hand if you had TCU vs. Kansas as the biggest game of the year in the Big 12? Hands down Coach Leipold and Coach Dykes….. anyone else? Nobody? Yeah, me neither, but here we are. The undefeated, 17th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs (4-0) and the 19th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks (5-0) face off this weekend in Lawrence for a huge Big 12 game.

Neither team’s start undefeated is no fluke, with TCU coming off a blowout win over Oklahoma (55-24), and Kansas already beating West Virginia (55-42), Houston (48-30), Duke (35-27) and Iowa State (14-11).

The winner remains undefeated in the conference and one step closer to playing for the Big 12 title.

BRYAN DRISKELL, EDITOR

Prediction: TCU 38, Kansas 33

I can’t wait for this game! They are two well-trained football teams that have been a joy to watch this season. Kansas won on offense and defense, while the Horned Frogs were a breakout team in the first year under Dykes. TCU has been an offense all season and enters this game averaging 48.5 ppg, but the Horned Frog defense isn’t getting enough credit to keep opponents at just 368.5 yards per game. and 5.1 yards per play.

That, for me, will be the key to this game. Kansas improved their defense, but they weren’t as good as the Horned Frogs. As much as I like to watch Milestone Daniels playing, quarterback TCU Max Dugan has much better weapons around him, and the defense he’ll be up against won’t be as good as the one Daniels will be up against.

I think it’s going to be an entertaining back-and-forth game, but in the end, TCU’s guns win.

Prediction: TCU 21, Kansas 17

Kansas got their wish as College Gameday is on their way to Lawrence for their famous kickoff show. This Kansas team was fun to watch and they haven’t been this good in as long as I can remember. The Big 12 are trying to make waves so they can lure schools to their conference in what I’m sure will be a poaching spree between them and the Pac-12 sooner rather than later.

A good Kansas team only reinforces that argument. Both of these teams are undefeated, so one of them is going to suffer a loss for the first time. I like that Kansas has home-court advantage in this one, but I don’t think it’ll be quite enough to get the outright victory. I would take the Jayhawks and the points. Kansas is also 5-0 ATS this season and I think that streak remains intact.

RYAN ROBERTS, RECRUITMENT DIRECTOR

Prediction: TCU 27, Kansas 24

Who would have thought TCU-Kansas would be a game people would be talking about this season? Nevertheless, there we are.

This TCU team is not your father’s Horned Frog team. They’re built on offense, seeing a dynamic senior season from quarterback Max Dugan so far. He has talented playmakers all over the pitch.

Kansas hits back with one of the coolest stories in college football this season. They’re led by a sophomore caller Milestone Daniels, which has been campaigning vigorously so far. It promises to be entertaining, but Duggan makes just a few more plays than the Jayhawks in this one.

SHAUN DAVIS, RECRUITMENT ANALYST

Prediction: Kansas 24, TCU 20

TCU was very impressive at home against the Oklahoma Sooners and they have the opportunity to go to Lawrence for the upset double in the Big 12. Sonny Dykes the Horned Frogs are playing extremely well, and the Jayhawks have found a way to win lousy games. GameDay will be there and the scale of the game will create a raucous crowd.

SEAN STIRES, WRITER

Prediction: Kansas 45, TCU 41

If you’re looking for offense, this is your game as ESPN’s College Game Day makes its first-ever appearance in Kansas. TCU is No. 2 in the nation in offense with 48.5 points per game after scoring 55 against Oklahoma last week. Kansas scored just 14 points in its win over Iowa State to lower its average to 40.6 per game. Quarterbacks Milestone Daniels (KU) and Max Dugan (TCU) can both run and throw. They had 16 and 13 total touchdowns, respectively.

ANDREW MCDONOUGH, IB CONTRIBUTOR

Prediction: Kansas 41, TCU 40

College game day travels to Lawrence, Kansas for the very first time for a game that no one expected to have national implications. Kansas and TCU both come into the game with undefeated and very much in play records for the Big 12 title and New Year’s Six Bowl appearances. Quarterbacks and coaches have been history – Lance Leipold and Milestone Daniels engineered one of the best turnovers in recent college football history and in his freshman season Sonny Dykes did the always talented Max Dugan much more consistent. Both teams are explosive, both teams take care of the ball, and both teams convert 50% or more third downs (Kansas converts 60%). In such a balanced match, I will go with the home team to find a way – there is something magical in the air at Lawrence.
