Illinois Basketball Drops AP Top 25

After a poor loss to Cincinnati last week, the Associated Press excluded Illinois from the Top 25 polls this week.

The fallout comes as no surprise. Illinois was a 9.5 point favorite for the Bearcats. Despite an eight-point victory Tuesday over opponent Big 12 Kansas State and a nine-point victory Friday over UT Rio Grande Valley, the Illini weren’t impressive enough to stay in the AP poll.

Four Big Ten teams remain in the poll. Illinois have a chance to win back this week by welcoming ACC opponent Notre Dame Monday in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge and his conference rival Rutgers on Friday.

This will be a difficult task as CBS college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein reports that it is “highly unlikely” that Trent Frazier, Andre Curbelo, Jacob Grandison and Benjamin Verdonk will play against the Irish.

Notre Dame went 3-2 Monday with wins over Cal-State major averages Northridge, High Point and Chaminade. The Illini are favorites at 4.5 points.
