High school sports: Tiger in medal lineup, Eagles eighth in ‘D’ state golf (5/24/22)

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. –Dundy-Stratton County senior Nolan Burrell tied for 12th with his round of 84 at the Class D State Golf Tournament at the Lake Maloney Golf Course on Tuesday.

The top 15 earn medals in the final round on Wednesday morning weather permitting.

Burrell has a tee time of 10:39 a.m. He shares 12th place with four other golfers: Braden Fleischmann, a sophomore from Overton, Cole Grovijohn junior from Howells-Dodge, Matthew Phelps junior from North Platte St. Patrick and Colbi Smith senior from South Loup. They are one shot ahead of three other golfers, including Loomis senior Quinn Johnson.

North Platte St. Patrick senor Teegan Sonneman shot 69 and holds a four-shot lead for No. 1 Class D over Irish teammate Connor Hasenaur. The Irish (321) are 23 strokes better than second-placed Overton (344) among the 12 qualified teams entering the last 18 holes on Wednesday.

Southern Valley is currently eighth at 370 with second Kamden Bose shooting 87 and tied for 26th.

Matthew Henderson shot a 92, Braxton Hammond 93 and Dalton Burgeson 98 to complete the SV Eagles team tally. Senior Braden Holste finished Tuesday at 115.

Arapahoe junior Ander Wasenius hot 93 to join Hammond in 53rd place. Hemingford’s Daxton Powell and Thayer Central’s senior Cayden Huber also fired 93s.
