Geraldine Mary Anderson died in the early hours of January 16, 2022, in Atascadero, Calif., with her daughter, Sheryl, with whom she made her home, by her side.

Gerry was born as a twin on August 20, 1930 in Durango, Colorado. She was one of eight children, growing up riding and attending a one-room school in Falfa, Colorado.

Gerry loved life and she loved him back. Until the day she died she said ” I have been very lucky. I had a wonderful life. Gerry was a devout Catholic and truly lived her faith. There is no greater example of the hand of God on this green earth than Gerry Anderson. She was one of a kind.

Gerry graduated from Adams State Teachers College in Colorado as a physical education teacher. She and her sister embarked on a great adventure in the early 1950s to teach in Alaska. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Bob Anderson.

After moving to Ashville, NY, she became a member of the Open Meadows community for over 50 years and loved it. They started a family of eight children a year apart.

Gerry worked as a physical education teacher at Falconer. She sang “Hail Mary” in a beautiful coloratura voice in several choirs including Our Lady of Snow, St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart. She was the type of person who made friends everywhere she went and really wanted to know their life story. Gerry has always looked for the good in everyone. Faith, family and love were the cornerstones of his life. She traveled with her husband, her children, her brothers and sisters all over the world.

She is survived by sons: Patrick Anderson (Carol) and Steven Anderson (Missy) all of Ashville, NY, Michael Anderson (Cindy) of Morro Bay, CA, Gregory Anderson (Jeannie) of Atascadero, CA, and John Maguire (Erin) of Reading, Pennsylvania; daughters: Ann Marie Anderson of Jamestown, Maureen Kaye (Joel) and Sheryl Anderson of Atascadero, California; his 15 beloved grandchildren: Matthew and Christopher Anderson, Betsy Mikuszewski, Sandy Heimel, Danny Anderson, Michael and Bryan Anderson, Andrew and Patrick Maguire, Wesley Nanasy, Jimmy Anderson, Bob and Tony Parasiliti, and Andrew and Robert Kaye. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren: Madison and Zach Anderson, Nolan Anderson, Kate and Emily Mikuszewski, Paul and Tara Heimel, Sterling, Larkin and Drift Nanasy; and many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert M. Anderson; parents, James and Lila Cummins; siblings: Sarah, Albert, Dennis and Gerald Cummins; his daughter, Rose Marie Anderson; granddaughter, Shannon Anderson; and great-grandson, Chase Anderson.

An Irish Celebration of Life will be held on June 25 at the family home.
