Georgia near No. 1 in updated USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll

0

The Georgia Bulldogs took control of the Eastern SEC and the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll with their 27-13 victory Tennessee. The Bulldogs showed they were still the team to beat and looked set to repeat as national champions. Georgia received 61 of 63 first-place votes in the updated rankings.

Ohio State retained service in the poll despite struggling with Northwestern, but they remain solidified as the No. 2 team in the nation.

Michigan was the only other team to receive votes following their dominating win over Rutgers. The Wolverines received two votes for first place, but sit in third place in the coaches’ poll.

Tennessee’s loss knocked them out of the top four, and TCU’s 21-point fourth quarter catapulted them into position to fight for a berth in the College Football Playoffs.

Clemson also fell from the undefeated ranks with their disappointing defeat at the hands of a resurgent our Lady. USL continued its strong run with an overtime win over LSU. They now have control of SEC West and if they keep their serve, they could face Georgia in the SEC title game. If they were to win, could they make the case for the college football playoffs? It would be surprising to see a two-game losing SEC team, but Georgia could make that a moot point in a few weeks.

Oklahoma State fell out of the top 25 with its resounding loss to Kansas, and Kansas State dropped after its loss to Texas.

Here’s a look at the rest of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches poll.
