Future of unknown Betty White’s latest film project after unexpected death


The future of Betty White’s final film project is now unknown, following the death of the legendary star on New Years Eve.

Just weeks before the Golden Girls actress passed away at the age of 99, it was announced that a film was in the works to honor her 100th birthday.

The late star had planned to invite fans to join her in celebrating her birthday on Jan. 17, filming scenes for a project slated to hit theaters across the United States.

Entitled Betty White: 100 Years Young – A Birthday Celebration, the documentary-style film also features a star-studded lineup – featuring cameos from Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Robert Redford, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and James Corden .

It’s unclear whether the late star had completed the necessary filming for her latest unfinished project, but the tribute to is expected to include clips of her most iconic roles, including her time as Rose on Golden Girls, her Super commercial. Bowl / Snickers and his role as host on Saturday Night Live.

The documentary-style film also planned to honor the pioneering actress by looking back on her accomplishments, including her role as the first woman to produce a television show.

After his agent confirmed the news of his death on Friday, it’s unclear whether the project can be completed as originally planned.

Earlier this month, the Golden Girls icon spoke of her excitement about reaching her century on January 17 – revealing plans for footage from her birthday party to feature in the upcoming documentary.

“Who doesn’t love a party?!? This one is going to be GREAT!” Betty exclaimed to CNN ahead of the release of herBetty White: 100 Years Young – A Birthday Celebration.

Along with the images from the birthday party – which will now play no part in the feature film – the late star’s unfinished project also planned to take a look at her everyday life.

The television legend’s long-standing commitment to animal rights activism was also to be a big part of the anniversary tribute.

Along with old Hollywood legends like Robert Redford and Clint Eastwood, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds was slated to appear in Betty White: 100 Years Young – A Birthday Celebration.

The day before his sad death on New Years Eve, Ryan joked with the late star – as she joked that the Free Guy actor “couldn’t get over it” despite his crush on Robert.

“I heard Ryan can’t get over his thing for me, but Robert Redford is The One,” Betty joked in her last interview.

Ryan and the late star first met while filming The Proposal with Sandra Bullock in 2009, where Betty played the actor’s sassy grandmother in the hit romantic comedy.

Minutes after his death was confirmed the next day, Ryan paid tribute to his late friend on Twitter – explaining that even at the age of 99, his death still seemed too soon.

“The world is different now. She was good at defying expectations,” the father of three tweeted to his 18.5 million followers.

“She managed to get very old and in a way, not old enough. We will miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.”
