Screen Media will release the British comedy Nan movie in theaters and on demand on July 22.

The film is based on the character of Nan from the BBC series “The Catherine Tate Show”, a rude grandmother named Joannie Taylor played by Tate herself.

In the film, Nan sets off on a wild road trip from London to Ireland with her long-suffering grandson Jamie to make amends with her estranged and dying sister Nell. Through a series of flashbacks, we see the young sisters fall in love with the same handsome GI during World War II and how the aftermath of that love triangle shaped Nan into the cantankerous persona she is today. Militant vegan arsonists, Aussie rugby teams, late-night raves and crazed motorbike cops all make for a great day.

The film was written by Tate and “Ted Lasso” star Brett Goldstein. The cast also includes Matthew Horne, Katherine Parkinson, Parker Sawyers, Tom Vaughn-Lawlor, Jack Doolan and Niky Wardley.
