A new One Piece movie is coming to the UK this fall

In collaboration with Toei Animation, Anime Limited has announced that the highly anticipated One Piece Film Red anime film will be released in the UK and Ireland in the fall of 2022.

The anime film, which will air both subtitled and dubbed, is released through an event called Cine Matsuri, which Anime Limited describes as “a jam-packed season of exciting and diverse animated films coming to cinemas across the UK and Ireland throughout the summer and autumn.

Based on a popular manga series, One Piece, which spawned 14 previous movies and anime series, focuses on Monkey D. Luffy: a rubber man. Inspired by his childhood hero, the Red-Haired Pirate Shanks, Luffy assembles his own pirate crew, known as the Straw Hat Pirates, to seek out the mythical One Piece: a treasure so legendary that upon obtaining it, Luffy hopes he can be crowned Pirate King.

The synopsis of the film, published by Crunchyroll, reads: “Uta — the world’s most beloved singer. Renowned for concealing her own identity during her performances, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly”. Now, for the very first time, Uta will step into the world at a live concert.

“As the room fills with all kinds of Uta fans – excited pirates, the navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who have simply come to enjoy his sonic performance – the voice that the whole world been waiting for is about to ring in. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.

Code Geass’ Goro Taniguchi is directing the film, while Tsutomu Kuroiwa, who is known for several One Piece projects and the live-action Black Butler, is writing the script. Meanwhile, Eiichiro Oda, who created the original manga, serves as the film’s executive producer.
