Despite the disappointing result on the pitch, Shaun Boykins Jr. was impressed with what he experienced as a visiting rookie at Notre Dame on Saturday.
“It was awesome,” the Kentucky 2024 wide receiver said afterwards. “From the moment I walked on campus, it was awesome.
“As soon as I walked through the door as a rookie, everyone was so friendly and helpful. When I went to take photos for the photo shoot, it was a great environment. All the equipment was nice. I just had a great time. The atmosphere of the match, all the fans were great. Talking to the coaches was cool.
The North Hardin High School star had the chance to speak briefly with Irish head coach Marcus Freeman ahead of the game.
“He was in a bit of a rush, but he asked me how my game went yesterday,” said the 6-foot-1, 185-pound player. “He’s a great guy. Everyone loves him; that’s what everyone told me, so I think he’s a great guy.
Boykins, who has an early offer from Kentucky, entered the trip with high expectations, which is why he made the visit in the first place.
“It’s Notre Dame,” he said. “It’s one of the schools that has a tradition of being great. I couldn’t say no to that.
He is looking forward to keeping in touch with the coaches.
“I will probably start building that relationship with the coaching staff and hope to be up for more visits soon,” he said.
He has a few more trips planned in the coming weeks.
“I’m going to Indiana next week. I’m going to Louisville the next week. I’m going to Michigan next month, then I’ll schedule trips to West Virginia and Kentucky.
